Guests Staying for Christmas

I know it’s still September and planning for Christmas and it’s festivities this early on is so so frowned upon … but dare I beg to disagree?

Since moving to the countryside, I fear no longer the impending busy high street stores with it’s overbearing glitz and jingle bells on repeat. No – I very rarely venture into a city at all, let alone when the Christmas mania sets in. I buy what I need online, over a cup of tea … and look forward to the postman delivering it to my door, stress and hassle free. (My postmans mantra “don’t rush … this is Cornwall …”).

So … back to my reverie … late September in the countryside … the unmissable chill is in the air bringing with it the sharp smell of pine … the nights are drawing in. The hawthorn berries are red and fat on the trees, and as the leaves fall the holly begins to appear from it’s hiding place to show off green prickly crowns. I’m already thinking about stock piling logs in anticipation for toasty fires, homemade rosehip wine and happy times ahead with family and friends.

But there are challenges … small cottage … three bedrooms … sans an abundance of beds and space … plus two big chocolate dogs, ready to lick and hugpounce (lab owners will know what I mean here) at anyone within one metre’s distance.

I would never be able to fit in the number of beds required … so to solve the dilemma bring in the blow up beds and camping foldouts to make up the numbers. I would like to make it feel homey, ‘Christmassy’ and pretty … even when the makeshift beds are unmade and disorderly.

So bring in the patchwork.

Case in point … while musing through gorgeous quilts online I found these fabulous ones from Pip Studio sold by Amara. I love the warmth of the colours, such pretty designs and they are all washable too. These quilts come in various sizes … and will look gorgeous on display on an open shelf or dresser when not in use. To take a further look … click on the images.

They also stock a gorgeous array of scatter cushions to provide your guests with much needed comfort after over indulging on the mulled wine and pudding.

I think these will solve my extra bedding dilemma in the coming months.

Now all I have to think about is keeping those pesky varmints off them!

Bye for now

R!
